Creating Economic Opportunity through Shared Ownership
We believe sharing ownership broadly is one of the most important things we can do to build a more financially inclusive economy.
Since 2011, more than 50 KKR portfolio companies have awarded billions of dollars of total equity value to over 100,000 non-senior management employees. In 2022, we also became a founding member of Ownership Works, a nonprofit that is supporting the shared ownership movement.
Our Portfolio Company Stories
Connecting Communities through Digital Infrastructure
Through our investments, we are connecting millions of homes globally to reliable, high-speed internet that is an essential part of modern daily life. KKR has significant experience investing in the growth of leading Fiber to Home providers globally with over 25 million homes passed and building more than four million annually. This includes the creation of independent open access wholesale fiber optic network companies in Chile, Colombia, Peru and in the Netherlands and investments in Hyperoptic in the U.K., Telenor Fiber in Norway, Deutsche Glasfaser in Germany and FiberCop in Italy.
Addressing the Global Retirement Security Crisis
We are in a global retirement crisis that is creating an acute and growing need for safe, affordable and reliable products that can help secure the futures of millions of retirees.
In addition to working for millions of individual beneficiaries of pension and sovereign wealth funds who rely on us to keep their promised benefits by investing in our funds, we also work for nearly 4 million individuals who own life insurance policies and annuity products through our insurance subsidiaries that allow them to save for retirement.
Financing the Energy Transition Globally
KKR has long invested in the energy transition, having committed $34 billion to climate and environmental sustainability investments since 2010. KKR is an active investor in the renewable energy sector across our Infrastructure and Credit strategies, and is the 10th largest owner of solar assets in operation and under construction in the U.S. We also believe that being a responsible investor through the transition entails investing in carbon-intensive sectors where we have the ability to help enhance their decarbonization efforts, instead of exiting these sectors entirely.
